The Change God, In Stars and Time
The Change God is a minor character in In Stars and Time and a background character in START AGAIN: a prologue. They are the deity around which the Change belief revolves.
Appearance
As deity of Change, the Change God does not have a fixed appearance. Between differing depictions of them, only their clothes remain the same:[1] a long cloak with a circular pattern expanding from their neck, and a dark necklace with a Change ornament affixed to it.
Depictions of their face are always different,[1] because every person holds their own perception of the Change God in their minds. Thus, making a statue of the Change God reflects back on the crafter, and creates a closer connection between them and the Change God.[2]
During the Change God's only actual appearance, they switch rapidly between the forms of all characters with unique portraits, never remaining in one form for longer than a few lines of dialogue.[3] When taking on the shape of their statues, they seem to favor the face Mirabelle crafted for them, even going so far as to stop the King from destroying it.[4]
Personality
The Change God is very affectionate, openly declaring their adoration of Mirabelle with great excitement. They also become distressed when Mirabelle begins to cry.[5]
All of their speech is entirely in lowercase and lacking in most punctuation, excluding copious amounts of exclamation marks. They also punctuate their speech with kaomoji, emphasizing their whimsical nature.
They are frequently characterized as lazy and do not wish to directly aid their followers with their "petty struggles for survival", instead opting to let their followers advance and grow by their own strength.[6]
In addition to their whimsical nature, the Change God is also petty, taking potshots at other faiths[7] and mocking Siffrin for never receiving a response from their own god.[8]Furthermore, the Change God demonstrates awareness of the fourth wall by making references to "sidequests"[9] and the game's tutorials.[10]
The Change God loathes stagnation and grows bored with it quickly. On the other hand, they enjoy being dramatic, showing schadenfreude at Siffrin's timelooping predicament. This also shows that the Change God may be omniscient.[11]
Relationships
Mirabelle
Mirabelle is initially confused by the Change God's appearance and demeanor.[12] However, once she realizes she is truly in the presence of her god, Mirabelle begins to cry due to her feelings of unworthiness. She feels guilt because she does not desire to change in all aspects, seeing it as an afront to her belief, as well as pretending to be blessed by the Change God.[13]
Hearing the Change God's words reassures her of her faith and lifts her confidence.[14]
In return, the Change God is incredibly fond of Mirabelle. Though they did not bless her, they nonetheless root for her success, and commend her on undertaking her journey by her own power.[6]
They see her insecurities concerning the Change belief, particularly her refusal to change in certain aspects where romance and gender are concerned, and attempt to put these to rest by directly congratulating the constant effort she puts in to change herself for the better.[15]
Additionally, the Change God considers Mirabelle cute.[16]
Siffrin
The Change God is upset with Siffrin because the timeloops go against their very nature, inducing stagnation in Dormont. However, the Change God contents themself by instead watching Siffrin change, which they find highly amusing.[11] Furthermore, they enjoy directly messing with Siffrin, by making jokes about their faith in the Universe or by taking on Loop's appearance.[8]
Loop
The Change God is aware of Loop's existence and their tutorial function, parodying their style of speech only to grow bored and stop.[10] Additionally, the Change God refers to Loop as Siffrin's "sponsor", directly referencing an optional conversation between Loop and Siffrin.[8]
In-Game Events
The Change God only appears in a single optional event, associated with Memory of Change God as well as the but then who was phone??? achievement.
This scene is unlocked by backtracking to the whole statue of the Change God on the third floor after obtaining the Keyknife, examining five distinct statues inside the House on the next loop, letting Mirabelle explain the statues, and then once more visiting the whole statue.
If this is done, Siffrin and Mirabelle are transported to a white void where they encounter the Change God.

Trivia
- If the player starts a new game after completing In Stars and Time, the Change God unlocks the ability to fast forward through all events that can be skipped. They remark "PLEASE ENJOY THIS TALE ONCE MORE. I know I will! o(*°▽°*)o."[17]
