Désespoir
Désespoir is a type of Sadness in In Stars and Time. It has gigantic hands and a cute face, and is notable for awarding a large amount of experience upon defeat.

Appearance
At first, only Désespoir's hands are visible. Its hands are gigantic, taking up all of Désespoir's space on the screen. They are dark grey and muscular, with darker rings around the wrists, and thorns occassionally jutting from it. Tears drip down from its unseen face above. It does not have legs, instead only resting on its hands, set flat onto the floor in the Paper gesture.
When hit, Désespoir bends down, revealing a round head and cartoonish face.

Strategy
Désespoir is an initially intimidating enemy, yet highly valuable to fight as it awards 1000 experience, the highest out of all regular enemies.
As a Paper type, it is weakest to Siffrin's attacks, meaning fighting it becomes significantly easier as loops progress. Even initially, it can be fought with some strategizing.
To start, Odile can slow down Désespoir without any downsides, and Siffrin can boost the party's speed. As the party member with the least valuable attacks against Paper type enemies, Isabeau can decrease Désespoir's attack and defense while boosting his allies.
Setting up Scissors type Jackpots using Siffrin, Mirabelle's and Odile's Scissors skills deals huge damage to Désespoir's massive 5000 HP while also healing allies.
In short, there is no need to be afraid of this enemy. Its 155 Attack does not outpace other standard enemies by any huge amount (to compare, Angoisse, an enemy from the first floor, has an Attack stat of 150).
If other enemies do not cause trouble, Désespoir can be taken on easily. However, if a player struggles through other regular battles, it may be wise to flee until Siffrin levels up.
