Suspicious Event

From In Stars and Time Wiki

The following page is dedicated to an optional event only available in ACT 4 of In Stars and Time unofficially deemed the Suspicious event. It awards Memory of A Secret and the Kinda sus... achievement. Furthermore, it unlocks additional dialogue for Odile in ACT 6.

Summary

As Siffrin continuously acts suspicious and Odile learns about both Time and Wish Craft, Odile arrives at the conclusion that Siffrin has been looping in time. She confronts him in the last room, though time rewinds before Siffrin can face any consequences.

Guide

Requirements

  • Enter ACT 4.
  • Read the book on Time Craft in the Candle Dorm on Floor 1.
  • Read the books on Wish Craft in the locked Storage Room on Floor 1 and inside the Secret Library on Floor 2
  • Obtain at minimum 15 Weird Points.
  • Talk to Odile during the last snack break.
  • Talk to Odile in the final room.

This event can also be obtained on loops with all Friendquests completed. The ability to read all books on Wish Craft requires some amount of story progression. For details, see ACT 4/Walkthrough.

Weird Points

Weird Points are an internal count kept by the game when performing suspicious actions. Obtaining a Weird Point is signified by a sound cue, a short dark flash across the screen, and typically either Odile or Isabeau looking confused.

Weird Points are stored separately per location and are only reset when looping to an earlier save point (e.g. looping to Floor 1 does not reset Weird Points for Dormont, only for Floor 1). It should thus theoretically be possible to get the special event even when looping to the King, as long as sufficient Weird Points (+ Wish and Time Craft books) were acrued beforehand.

The final check whether the player has obtained 15 Weird Points occurs when talking to Odile during the last snack break at the end of Floor 3.

Signifiers

Several key dialogue changes occur when meeting the requirements for the event. They let the player confirm whether they have obtained sufficient Weird Points and met the other requirements before the final check.

When talking to Odile during the first snack break, she remarks on both Time and Wish Craft, thus confirming that the required books have been read. Her dialogue is altered if the player has 4 Weird Points or more.

When talking to Odile during the second snack break, her dialogue is altered if the player has 4 Weird Points or more.

When talking to Odile during the last snack break, her dialogue is altered if the player has 15 Weird Points or more.

If the player has 14 or more Weird Points when entering the bathroom on Floor 3, a special conversation between Odile and Isabeau occurs, though this is not required for the event to trigger.

Actions that award Weird Points

This list does not claim to include all actions that award Weird Points, and only includes options available in ACT 4.

Rewards

Memory

GAMEICON 153.png Memory of A Secret

Description: Too perceptive. [+50 ATK]

Memory of A Secret is a memory that can be equipped by Odile. It increases her attack by 50 and offers no further effects.

Unlike most memories, Loop does not describe its effects, and it simply appears in the player's inventory. This trait is also shared with Memory of Touch, Memory of Ghosts, Memory of Emptiness and Memory of A Journey.

Achievement

Kinda Sus... is the achievement awarded for the event above. Internal files refer to it as "odilequest_sus".

It activates toward the end of the conversation with Odile in the final room.

Trivia

  • The name of the achievement, Kinda Sus..., may be a reference to the game Among Us, in which players attempt to find an imposter among themselves and accuse each other of behaving sus, short for suspicious.
  • Some interactions do not award Weird Points despite playing the appropriate audio and visual cues, such as picking "It brings back bad memories." when interacting with the croissants in the locked Break Room on Floor 2.
